INTRODUCTION OF LUANA DeVOL, 12/18/16  – REVISED 12.15/16

Luana DeVol has dazzled audiences around the globe with her dramatic soprano voice.  She launched her career in Germany in 1984 as principal soloist in German opera ensembles and was soon in demand as a premier artist at virtually all the major opera house in the world as well as the legendary Wagner Bayreuth Festival.  Luana was renowned for her roles in the operas of Richard Wagner, especially Brunnhilde, for which she received many accolades.

She was named “Singer of the Year” not once but twice by the German language OPERNWELT (Opera World) magazine.  Her global success is amazing.  In Madrid, she sang the title role in DIE WALKYRIE paired with famed tenor Placido Domingo.  Her debut at La Scala was as FIDELIO under the baton of Lorin Maazel. She became the toast of Vienna.  For her debut at the Metropolitan Opera she was cast as Ortrud in Wagner’s Lohengrin.  She performed the heroic Immolation Scene in Wagner’s GOETTERDAEMMERUNG in Abu Dhabi…and this barely describes her success.

Although she has now retired from the rigors of operatic globe trotting and returned to her home in Henderson, she is very involved in the operatic scene from coast to coast and in developing new, young voices.  As Managing Director and Vice-President of the Board of Opera Las Vegas, she has brought top stars of the Metropolitan Opera to Las Vegas to present critically acclaimed performances of MADAM BUTTERFLY, CARMEN and THE BARBER OF SEVILLE.  RIGOLETTO is scheduled for June 2017.

It is an honor and privilege to welcome Luana DeVol and Opera Las Vegas back to Las Ventanas for their third performance.
